The golden hues of the setting sun painted the small town with a warm embrace as Will approached the quaint, two-story house that had been his sanctuary since childhood. His heart swelled with excitement, eager to surprise his mother Victoria. He unlocked the door quietly, the familiar creak echoing through the hallway.
With a gentle nudge, the front door swings open, revealing the well-kept interior of the house. The scent of freshly baked cookies wafts down the stairs, a testament to Victoria's industriousness even when expecting no one. The hallway is lined with family portraits, each frame capturing moments of laughter and love. Will's footsteps are silent on the plush carpet as he tiptoes into the living room, his eyes scanning the cozy space, noticing the subtle changes that have occurred since he left for college. The voices he heard from upstairs grew clearer, a mix of laughter and chatter that didn't quite match the soothing silence of an empty house. He cautiously makes his way to the staircase, the wood groaning slightly under his weight as he ascends. The excitement of the surprise bubbling in his chest is tinged with curiosity – who could be here?
As Will reaches the top of the stairs, the voices from the parents' bedroom grow more distinct. His curiosity piqued, he can't help but recognize one of the voices – it's definitely not his father's gruff tone. He pauses for a moment, his hand hovering over the doorknob, unsure of what to do. His mind races, trying to piece together who could be in there with his mother. He hadn't expected anyone but mom to be home, let alone another man. His cheeks flush with a mix of embarrassment and confusion as the sound of shuffling and a faint giggle float through the crack in the door. He leans closer, his heart pounding in his chest.
Will's eyes widen as the reality of the situation crashes over him like a cold wave. He's frozen at the door, the heat from his mother's bedroom suffocating him. The muffled moans and unmistakable sounds of passion leave no room for doubt. The air is thick with tension, a stark contrast to the sweet cookie scent from the kitchen. His thoughts swirl in a tornado of shock and betrayal, but he can't tear his hand away from the doorknob. The voice is definitely not his father's; it's softer, younger. His heart races as he considers the implications. He presses his ear closer, straining to make out any distinguishable words, his mind reeling as he tries to piece together who this stranger could be.
