"You know, I've read this textbook cover to cover at least three times," Sonia said to her friend, Rachel, as they sat in a dimly lit bar, the scent of old leather and stale beer wafting around them. Rachel, a fellow professor, rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "And yet, somehow, it never gets any more exciting."

"You say that about every book you're forced to teach," Rachel quipped, taking a sip of her drink. "But hey, at least the students keep you on your toes."

Sonia chuckled, the sound warm and genuine. She truly did love her job, despite the occasional monotony of the curriculum. The intellectual curiosity in the young faces that filled her classroom every semester brought a spark to her eyes that never dimmed, even after years of teaching. She found joy in watching her students grasp complex concepts, in the way their expressions shifted from confusion to clarity, and in the sudden bursts of enthusiasm when they discovered something new. Her role as a guide through the labyrinth of knowledge was one she cherished deeply.

But there was one exception to her weekly bliss: Wednesdays. It was the day she had to teach her 3 PM class, a group of students that seemed to have more energy than a roomful of caffeinated squirrels. They fidgeted, whispered, and passed notes like they were playing an elaborate game of hot potato. It was a struggle to maintain order, much less get through the lecture material. Sonia had tried various strategies over the years—strict rules, engaging activities, even bribery with extra credit—but nothing seemed to hold their attention for long. Rachel had warned her about the class when she'd first taken it on, but she had underestimated their restlessness.

And then there was Lisa. Tiny, yet she had a presence that could fill the room. Her eyes, bright and inquisitive, always searched Sonia's, looking for the answers that she hadn't found in the textbook. Lisa was the smartest student Sonia had ever encountered, and she liked to provoke her with questions that danced around the edges of the syllabus. The other students watched in a mix of awe and annoyance as Sonia tried to keep up with her mental acrobatics. Sometimes she felt like a moth to a flame, drawn to the challenge but inevitably getting burned by the intensity of the conversation.

This Wednesday was particularly tense. The room was stifling, the heat from the students' restlessness rising with every passing minute. Sonia had hoped to get through the lecture without a single interruption, but she could see the storm brewing in Lisa's eyes. The young woman had her hand up, a silent plea for engagement amidst the chaos. With a sigh, she called on her. "Lisa, what's on your mind?"
