The grand castle of Valoria stood tall and majestic, its ancient stones whispering secrets of battles won and alliances forged. Within its regal halls, the sun cast a warm glow through stained glass windows, painting the floor with a kaleidoscope of colors that danced as shadows shifted. It was here that King Aldric and Queen Elara held their morning court, listening to the petitions of their subjects and discussing matters of state.
The final petitioner had just bowed low and retreated from the throne room, their plea for a fairer land tax heard and noted. With a grace that belied the weight of her crown, Queen Elara turned to her husband, King Aldric. She had a look in her eyes that spoke of a private concern, something that could not be shared amidst the prying eyes of the court.
"Ah, the end of another day's audience," Aldric sighed, running a hand through his beard. His eyes searched hers, noticing the unspoken worry. "What troubles you, my dear?"
With a subtle nod, Elara gestured for the guards to stand at ease and the last of the scribes to leave the chamber. She took Aldric's hand, her touch cool and gentle. "There is something of great urgency, yet delicate in nature, that I wish to discuss with you in private." She led him through the grand halls, their footsteps echoing in the ensuing silence. The warmth of the sun had been replaced by the soft glow of torches and candles, casting dancing shadows on the tapestries that adorned the walls, telling tales of their ancestors' valor. As they ascended the grand staircase to the Royal Quarter, her grip tightened slightly. "Please, my love, come with me to our chambers," she said in a hushed tone that carried the gravity of her unspoken words.
Aldric followed her, his heavy steps mirroring the weight of the crown upon his brow. He knew that look in Elara's eyes; it was one of profound concern and something that required his full attention. As they reached the Royal Quarter, the air grew thick with the scent of incense, a gentle reminder of the sanctity of their private space. He allowed her to lead him into their chamber, where the large four-poster bed lay untouched, the crimson curtains drawn aside to reveal the intricately carved wooden headboard. He took a seat in a nearby chair, his hand still clasped in hers, and gave her a comforting squeeze. "Speak, my Queen," he urged gently, his voice a balm to the tension that coiled around her.
