Mia’s stripping debut had been absolutely stellar. She understood that she’d been hired, but she slowly took a mental panorama shot of the club. She was intoxicated by the moment and she loved the reaction of Jan, and other staff that had filed in quietly as she had performed. Right now, the practicalities of being hired paled into insignificance compared to the the fact that everyone had witnessed her moment.

Walking off stage towards the changing area, she had to double back to collect the latex bikini on the floor. Mia felt she was walking on air. Her head was buzzing and she barely heard the positive comments and whistles. It felt like she was drunk.

Sitting on the bench in the changing area, she found a note left by Jan. The note just had Jan’s mobile number on it and it informed her that she would start next Friday evening. Mia’s pulse quickened at the thought of the possibility of performing in a really packed club.

Mia’s mind didn’t even begin to slow down until she reached the train station. She had opted to take the train over the bus to return home. She figured correctly, that the carriages would be almost empty at that hour. The wait for the next train and the relatively empty carriage gave her time to regain her composure. Once installed in her seat, she immediately began thinking how she might tell her parents that she had found a job. Mia knew that she had to normalise and calm down, or her perceptive mother would become suspicious and that, right now, she couldn’t handle an interrogation.

Subterfuge And Manipulation.

Mia had used the cover story of visiting her friend Susan, who lived in the same town as the strip club, saying that they would meet up and go to the cinema. The two had been good mates for years, and, unknown to their respective parents often supplied reciprocal cover stories.

Walking from her home train station, to her parents’ house, Mia munched some strong mints. She knew her mum would notice the smell and would attribute her being late to having a few alcoholic drinks with Susan. Her mum noticed Mia was a bit over exuberant and didn’t challenge her escape to bed.

There was post placed at the breakfast table for Mia. Serendipitously, Mia’s chosen university had written to her, post interview. The faculty of Computer Science & Mathematics wrote to confirm an offer to take a place on a Computer Science degree that October.
