AFTER MIDNIGHT AT THE HOTEL

Chapter 1

Check-In

The neon sign of the ‘Azure Bay Resort’ flickered in the damp night air, casting a sickly violet glow over the deserted parking lot. Elena stared at it, her fingers gripping the strap of her heavy leather tote, her boots clicking rhythmically against the concrete. It was 12:47 AM, and the humidity of the coast made her silk blouse cling to her skin, damp and suffocating. All she wanted was a shower, a glass of cold White Zinfandel, and several hours of oblivion.

As she pushed through the heavy glass revolving doors, the blast of air conditioning hit her like a physical blow, sharp and bracing. The lobby was a temple of expensive silence, floors polished to a mirror shine, gold-trimmed columns reaching up toward a vaulted ceiling. The scent of expensive lilies and old money permeated the air, mixing with the faint, underlying metallic tang of floor wax.

At the mahogany reception desk stood a man.

He wasn’t the kid in a cheap blazer she expected at this hour. This man was broad-should

bred, late thirties, wearing a charcoal suit that cost more than Elena’s car. His dark hair was slicked back, sharp-edged, and his eyes—dark, heavy-lidded, and impassive—were fixed on her as she approached. It was the kind of steady gaze that made most women tremble and men look away. But Elena had traveled the world dealing with the powerful; she wasn’t intimidated, just tired. And goddamn, she was turned on. He was the kind of man who commanded a room without saying a word, exuding a silent, masculine competence that vibrated under the surface of his composed exterior.

“Good evening,” he said, his voice a low, resonant rumble that she felt in the center of her chest. “Welcome to the Azure Bay. I’m Marcus Thorne, the resort manager. I wasn’t expecting any late arrivals tonight.”

Elena leaned against the dark wood of the desk, her hips brushing the own. The movement caused the silk of her blouse to slide back, exposing a полоска of pale skin at her throat. “Flight was delayed. The goddamn airline lost my checked luggage, and I don’t have the energy to fight with them. I just need a room.”

Marcus’s gaze dipped, tracing the line of her collarbone down to where her blouse tensioned across her breasts. It wasn’t a furtive look; it was an appreciation, unsheathed and direct. The heat of it seemed to seep through the fabric of her clothes.

“If you have a reservation, Miss...?”

“Elena Vance. I booked through my company.” She watched him, watching his thick fingers tap deliberately on the counter. The cadence was filled with intent. “You don’t seem concerned about the time, Mr. Thorne. Or the privacy of your guests.”

A faint, knowing smile touched the corners of his mouth, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “Privacy is our specialty. We can accommodate whatever your needs may be. After all, this time of night is meant for things the daylight prohibits.” He reached under the counter, retrieved a silver keycard, and held it out between them. He didn’t let go when she reached for it.

His skin was hot, his grip firm. The brief contact sent a jolt of electricity leaping up her arm, making her breath hitch. Elena’s fingers tightened on the card, her gaze locking onto his.

“What if I decided this afternoon’s delays weren’t enough victory for today?” she whispered, her voice tinged with a sudden, reckless challenge. “What if I need something more than just a room?”

Marcus’s eyes darkened. The air between them charged, thrumming with an almost tangible tension that made the opulent lobby feel small, suffocatingly close. He didn’t withdraw his hand; instead, he slowly turned his palm upward, drawing her hand close to his. His thumb traced a slow, heavy circle over the sensitive skin of her wrist, where her pulse fluttered wildly.

“Then you’ve come to the right place,” he said softly. “My quarters are behind that door. Discreet and utterly sequestered.”

Elena felt a grin touch her lips. She turned the keycard in her fingers and pushed past him, walking toward the corridor that led to the employee wings. She didn’t look back; she knew he was following. The sound of his heavy, confident footfalls on the plush carpet echoed her own quickening heartbeat.

The door to his suite clicked shut behind them, sealing out the silence of the hotel. Marcus didn’t waste time with formalities. He caught her by the waist, spinning her around so her back hit the cold wood of the door and her front was pressed flush against him. The scent of him—expensive cologne, aged bourbon, and pure, raw man— swirled around her, a heady intoxicant that made her head light.

“You’ve been watching me since you walked in,” Marcus murmured against her ear. His breath, warm and erratic, made her shiver. “And I’ve been watching you. Those heels, that blouse... you knew exactly what you were doing, didn't you?”

“I wanted a drink,” Elena gasped, her fingers digging into the broad expanse of his shoulders.

He laughed low in his throat, a wicked, hungry sound, as his hands slid down to grip the backs of her thighs. With one sudden, practiced motion, he hoisted her up. Elena automatically wrapped her legs around his waist, her blouse riding up, exposing her bare midriff to the cool air. She felt his thumbs press hard into the tender skin where her thighs met her buttocks, urging her closer.

“I can get you your Zinfandel later,” Marcus said, his voice now thick and rough. “Right now, I think you’d prefer something you can taste.”

He kissed her then, his mouth devouring hers with an intensity that took her breath away. It wasn't a tentative first kiss; it was an assertion, a claim. Elena moaned into his mouth, tastes of whiskey and Mint mingling together as he dragged her deeper into the room, his hands never leaving what they had claimed.

He dropped her onto the edge of an oversized leather armchair, without breaking the kiss. A shudder passed through her body as his tongue slid deeper into her mouth, claiming every inch, marking her as his. Elena’s hands were everywhere now, tearing at his tie, ripping the buttons from his dress shirt. The buttons spilled onto the floor like little white pebbles, but she didn’t care. She wanted the fabric gone.

Marcus pulled away for a moment, his chest heaving, eyes dark with primal need. “You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to do this.”

He reached up and tore away her silk blouse, fabric straining and ripping under his fingertips. The blouse fluttered to the floor, leaving her in nothing but her lopsided bra. Marcus’s eyes raked over her, his expression one of pure, unadulterated hunger. He reached out, his large hand closing around one of her breasts, squeezing hard enough to make her gasp and arch her back.

“Beautiful,” he grunted, thumbs rubbing over her hard, aching nipples.

Elena reached for him, tugging at his trousers, needing to feel more of him. He helped her, undressing her with hungry desperation, his hands roaming over every curve, every line of her body. He dissolved her underwear with a lazy pull, then stepped back to gaze at her completely naked, her skin porcelain in the amber light of the room.

“Come here,” he commanded, almost a growl.

Elena obeyed, sliding from the chair and onto her knees in front of him. She reached for his belt, her fingers working swiftly, trembling with anticipation. As she freed him from his trousers, his massive, thick length sprang free, already demanding attention. Elena stared at him—he was a man made for physical activities, not for behind-the-desk paperwork. He was heavy, corded with muscle, every vein visible under smooth, tanned skin.

She leaned forward, her hair spilling over his thighs. She licked the tip of him, tasting the faint soap and the underlying saltiness of his skin. Marcus sighed, a shaky, ragged sound that filled the room.

“Fucking... goddammit, Elena,” he choked out, his fingers digging into her hair, guiding her down.

The moan came from her throat as she took him fully into her mouth, her tongue exploring the fullness of him, swirling and suctioning until he was twitching against her lips. She could feel him tense, his muscles locked tight as he fought to hold back. She looked up at him through her lashes, her lips still slick, wet with him. He looked plagued, his features twisted with need, watching her with a mixture of devotion and raw lust.

He reached down, grabbing her arms and wrenching her upward with him. “Enough tease,” he breathed, spinning her around and pushing her down onto the leather surface of the armchair.

He sided on her, his heavy weight pressing her deep into the soft leather. Elena wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer, seeking the warmth and hardness of him. Marcus entered her with a forced, guttural growl, the friction of skin on skin sending electric sparks through her nerves. His eyes were locked on hers, hard and piercing, watching her face as he began to move, a slow, rhythmic drive that filled her completely.

“Look at me,” he demanded, his hands pinning her wrists against the cushions. “I want to see exactly what you’re feeling.”

Elena could barely scream, depression clashing with pleasure as he surged deeper, filling her, stretching her. The sound of his flesh hitting hers, a heavy, wet slap, echoed in the quiet room.

“You feel good,” he hissed, his teeth grazing her neck, his fingers digging bruisingly into her hands. “Tight. So tight. Answer me, Elena. You like this?”

“I like... I want more,” she gasped, arching her hips to take him deeper, her heels digging into the backs of his thighs.

The pace increased, the rhythm become more frantic. He released her wrists so her hands could find him, her long nails digging into the muscle of his shoulder blades, drawing blood. He felt her muscles clenching around him, the rhythm of her body matching the frantic, driving surge of his. Elena’s breath came in ragged, broken sobs, her eyes squeezed shut as she neared the edge.

“Tell me,” he murmured, his voice rough. “Tell me you’re mine.”

“I’m yours,” she wheezed, her voice breaking. “All yours, Marcus.”

The confession shattered whatever restraint he had left. He moved with explosive force, each thrust deeper and harder than the last. Elena could feel the build-up, the searing pressure at the base of her spine radiating outward. She wailed, her body shuddering as she peaked, the waves of pleasure rocking her back and forth. Marcus followed her a heartbeat later, a deep, resonant groan tearing from his throat as he buried his head in the crook of her neck, spending himself inside her.

As the last of the tremors died down, Marcus slid back, slowly extricating himself and lingering there, cradling her against him. His chest was slick with perspiration, his ragged breathing audible in the absolute silence of the suite.

“Am I going to see you in the morning?” he asked, kissing her forehead, his tone returning to that low, smooth, commanding rumble.

“Maybe,” Elena answered, breathless and utterly drained, but with a smile playing on her lips. “Depends on how you make me coffee.

Chapter 2

Late Night Conversation

The room was heavy with the scent of their combined sweat and the fading musk of his cologne. Elena lay sprawled across the leather armchair, her legs draped over the wide armrest, feeling the plush material cool against her bare skin. Marcus had retreated to the small mahogany sideboard of the suite, pouring two fingers of a dark, amber liquid into a heavy crystal tumbler. He took it to the bed, rumpled his expensive trousers back into place, but left his shirt unbuttoned, revealing the expanse of his chest and the coarse, dark hair that down the center.

Elena watched him from her perch, her chest still rising and falling with the afterglow of his weight. Marcus was prepared for everything, she realized. Even in the aftermath of the most raw, uninhibited moment of her week, he looked entirely composed. It was a talent—one that likely served him well as the man in charge of six hundred employees and a dozen luxury resorts.

“You’re staring,” he said, though there was no judgment in his tone. He held out the glass to her.

“I’ve never seen a man—professional or otherwise—recover from that so quickly,” Elena said, sliding off the chair with a groan of satisfaction. She took the glass from him, her fingers brushing his, and caught the flicker of amusement in his eyes. “What happened to the ‘gone wild’ moment? The animalistic hunger?”

Marcus sat on the edge of the bed, leaning back on his elbows. He looked up at her, tracking the curve of her body as she laced her fingers behind her neck, stretching and arching her spine like a cat.

“The hunger doesn’t leave, Elena,” he said. “It just becomes... manageable. You have to control it. Especially in this business. If you’re ruled by your impulses, you lose your authority. I’m paid to keep this place running smoothly. Plenty of girls come through here thinking they can seduce the manager for a free stay or a little thrill. I can’t afford to lose my head over every set of eyes in the lobby.”

“But I wasn’t just another set of eyes,” Elena argued, moving toward the bed and settling beside him. She ...
