Local Slut

The dimly lit bar, with its aged oak panels and a faint scent of stale beer, had been their sanctuary for years. The hum of conversation and clinking of glasses filled the air as Elijah, a man in his 50s with a well-trimmed beard and piercing blue eyes, raised his pint to his friend James, who mirrored the gesture with a warm smile. James's greying hair was swept back, revealing a furrowed brow etched with the lines of a life lived with intensity. Both men were dressed casually, their clothes bearing the subtle marks of a hard day's work. They sat comfortably at a corner table, surrounded by the familiar faces of their small town.

Elijah's eyes twinkled with a hint of nostalgia as he leaned in slightly over his beer. "You know, James, I can't help but think about William's little girl, Anna. Remember how she used to follow us around when we were fixing up those old cars?" He took a slow sip, the cool liquid washing over his tongue before he swallowed.

James' smile grew as he listened to Elijah's words, his eyes lighting up at the mention of Anna's return. He sat up straight, the leather of his chair creaking under his weight. "Well, I'll be," he said, a hint of disbelief in his tone. "The last time I saw her, she was all pigtails and grease stains. Can't imagine William's little girl causing a stir like that." He took another swig of his beer, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "Maybe we should pay her a visit," he suggested, his eyes gleaming with curiosity. "You know, for old times' sake. And maybe see if she's still got it under the hood," he added with a wink.

A mischievous grin spread across Elijah's face. He tapped his finger against the side of his pint glass, the sound echoing softly through their corner of the bar. "If those rumors are true," he said with a wag ...
