Perfect Fit
I was drawing a picture in my notebook of Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z blasting an enemy with his Kamehameha attack when the bell rang.
At first, I didn’t pay much attention even though Mrs. Humphries had never been late to class even once. It was only when Principal Striver marched in, followed by a woman I had never seen before in my life, that I sat up straight in my chair.
“Attention, everyone. Please be quiet. Thank you,” said Principal Striver, shooting hard stares at a few kids before continuing. “I’m sorry to inform you but Mrs. Humphries has had a family emergency and will not be returning for the rest of the semester.”
Look, I have nothing against Mrs. Humphries. She was a fair teacher, as far as things go, even though I thought most of her lessons were dry and boring. It was the announcement that she wasn’t going to be returning that really got me fired up because of who Principal Striver was standing next to.
“Class, this is Miss McKinney. She’s going to take over for Mrs. Humphries for the next few weeks,” said Principal Striver as my pulse began to race.
I had to repress the urge to do a fist pump, and I’m sure many of the other kids around me were feeling the same way. Why wouldn’t we? Unlike Mrs. Humphries, who was a matronly woman closing in on retirement age, Miss McKinney was young and beautiful. Even in that first moment, I was entranced by her long, glossy hair and the eager sparkle in her eyes.
“Miss McKinney graduated from Crestwood University with full honors,” continued Principal Striver. “However, this is her first teaching assignment, so I want you kids to go easy on her. With any luck, she will be a valuable addition to our faculty for many years to come.”
My only regret at that moment was that I would be finishing high school in just a few weeks. Even though Miss McKinney hadn’t even opened her mouth yet, I couldn’t get enough of her. It went beyond just her raw physical beauty, too, because she was dressed in a sexy yet graceful way that simply exuded confidence and style.
“Thank you for the kind words, Principal Striver,” said Miss McKinney, her voice slightly high-pitched, but that made me like her even more. “I can’t say I was quite ready to jump straight into teaching just yet, but no time like the present, eh?”
When she chuckled, I smiled, and I heard a few other kids joined in as well. Why not? Miss McKinney was amazing, and I felt my heart leap in my chest at the knowledge that every single one of my remaining days at Westmoreland High School was going to end with Miss McKinney as my seventh period English teacher.
“All right, I’ll leave you to it,” said Principal Striver, glaring around for a moment before turning and exiting the classroom.
I don’t really remember how Miss McKinney began her first lesson with us. All I know is that I never got tired of looking at her. Whether she was writing on the chalkboard or calling on us to read a passage aloud from our textbook, I was on cloud nine.
When you’re a guy like me, who hasn’t had much luck talking to girls, you have to spend your days torn between two equally painful choices.
If you want to look at a pretty girl, you can only glance at her indirectly or look at her in short bursts or else she will think you’re creepy. But if you don’t look at all, then you’ll never know which girl you like enough to summon up the courage to go talk to them.
With Miss McKinney, however, I was allowed to drink her in with my eyes as long as I liked! Why not? She was my teacher. She was standing in front of all of us. It was her job to be looked at, and so that is exactly what I did.
When I got tired of noticing how cute and pert her nose was, I would spend a few minutes letting my eyes roam across the front of her sweater, trying to estimate how big her boobs were and what kind of bra she was wearing.
If Miss McKinney went to pick something up off her desk, my gaze would jump straight to her backside, demurely hidden underneath the fabric of her skirt yet with still enough bounce to tell me there was a real treasure waiting to be uncovered. If she wrote on the board, I’d watch the hemline of her skirt as it jiggled ever so slightly, making me wish for a gust of air to come through the window and lift it up.
She really was amazing. I’d already estimated her height when she stood next to the flagpole, so I knew that I was about four inches or so taller than her. She was petite and athletic and had an easygoing smile that instantly lit up the room. Best of all, despite being a college graduate, she looked the same age as me or possibly even younger, meaning she and I would be a perfect fit.
Of course, even in my daydream, I knew that there was zero chance of us ever getting together. After all, why would such a beautiful, charming, and intelligent young woman like Miss McKinney ever choose me when it was obvious that half the guys in class were crushing over her already? Even Zeke Daniels, who ...
