Six Months of Hatred, Hunger, and Ruin

  1. Prologue

The lawyer’s voice sliced through the heavy silence of the paneled study like a scalpel drawn across skin. Vittorio Rossi was dead, and the marble villa on the cliffs waited for them, its windows dark eyes staring out over the restless Ligurian Sea. Elena sat motionless in the leather chair, her spine straight, the black silk of her dress clinging to the subtle rise of her breasts with every measured breath. The fabric whispered against her thighs as she shifted, the faint heat of her own body trapped beneath it. Across the wide oak table, Luca stood like a storm barely contained, his broad shoulders rigid beneath the crumpled black shirt, jaw clenched so tightly a muscle ticked beneath the stubble.

She could smell him even from here—salt and fury, the sharp bite of whiskey already on his breath. His dark eyes dragged over her with open contempt, lingering on the pale column of her throat, the soft swell where her dress dipped low. Elena felt that gaze like rough fingers tracing her collarbone, a slow, unwilling spark igniting low in her belly despite the ice in her veins. She hated how her nipples tightened against the silk, a traitorous ache she refused to acknowledge.

The terms fell between them like chains.

The entire inheritance—villa, empire, every offshore account—would be theirs only if they lived together in the isolated estate for six unbroken months. No staff. No guests. No one. The gates would lock. Weekly remote verification would confirm their presence. Failure meant total forfeiture.

Elena’s pulse throbbed in her throat, thick and heavy. She felt the lawyer’s words settle on her skin like warm oil, sliding down between her breasts, pooling in the hollow of her stomach. Six months alone with him. The son who had always looked at her as if he wanted to tear her apart. Now the old man’s final cruelty offered him the perfect cage in which to do it.

Luca’s hands curled into fists at his sides, knuckles whitening. She watched the veins stand out along his forearms, imagined the strength in those fingers gripping her hips hard enough to bruise. A dark thrill coiled between her legs, unwelcome and slick, as his gaze burned into her. He hated her. She could taste it in the air between them—thick, metallic, intoxicating.

When the documents were signed and the gates of the villa finally clanged shut behind them, the sound reverberated through Elena’s bones. The entrance hall stretched vast and shadowed, scented with aged wood, sea salt, and the faint ghost of Vittorio’s cologne. Luca slammed the heavy door, the impact vibrating up through the marble floor into the soles of her heels. He stalked closer, close enough that she felt the heat rolling off his body, the brush of his breath against her temple.

“You think you’ve won,” he growled, voice low and rough, scraping over her nerves like gravel under bare feet. His chest nearly touched hers. She could see the rapid flutter of his pulse at the base of his throat, smell the raw masculinity of his skin.

Elena lifted her chin, her lips parting on a slow exhale. The air between them crackled, charged with years of venom and something far more dangerous. Her cunt clenched once, involuntarily, a warm pulse of unwanted wetness gathering as she met his furious stare.

  1. Chapter 1: The First Night

Grey clouds hung low over the cliffs as the heavy iron gates sealed behind the black car with a final, resounding clang. Elena stepped into the entrance hall of the villa, her heels clicking sharply against the cool marble. The air inside carried the faint, intimate scent of aged leather, sea brine, and the lingering trace of Vittorio’s spiced cologne that still clung to the draperies. She felt the weight of the empty house settle on her skin like a second dress, the black silk of her mourning attire suddenly too thin, too revealing against the chill that raised gooseflesh along her arms.

Luca followed close behind, his presence a looming heat at her back. The door slammed shut under his palm, the sound booming through the vast space and vibrating up through her bones into the soft flesh between her thighs. She didn’t turn around. Not yet. Instead she walked deeper into the hall, hips swaying with deliberate grace, aware of his gaze dragging down the curve of her spine to the swell of her ass beneath the clinging fabric.

They claimed separate wings without a word. Elena took the east wing, the one with the wide terrace overlooking the sea, while Luca disappeared into the west with a muttered curse. For hours the villa echoed with distant footsteps and the occasional crash of drawers being yanked open. She unpacked slowly in the master suite she refused to yield, her fingers trailing over the smooth silk sheets that still carried the ghost of Vittorio’s body. Her nipples tightened against her bra as unwanted memories surfaced—rough hands, commanding whispers—but she pushed them down.

Dinner was inevitable. The kitchen, vast and gleaming with stainless steel, became their unwilling arena. Elena moved with elegant efficiency, slicing vegetables, the sharp knife flashing under the lights. She wore a simple robe now, deep crimson silk that parted with every step to reveal the smooth length of her thigh. Luca appeared shirtless, sweatpants slung low on his hips, the deep V of muscle disappearing beneath the waistband drawing her eyes despite herself. His chest rose and fell with barely contained rage, dark hair dusting the hard planes.

“You really think you belong here, don’t you?” he snarled, slamming a bottle of wine onto the counter. The glass clinked dangerously. “Gold-digging your way into my father’s bed and now into his house. Six months of this bullshit and you’ll own half of everything he built while my mother rotted.”

Elena’s knife paused mid-chop. Heat flushed up her neck. She turned slowly, the robe slipping open just enough to expose the inner curve of one breast. “Your mother,” she said, voice low and venomous, “was gone long before I arrived. And you—you abandoned him the moment it got hard. Running away while I stayed, taking care of a man you couldn’t even look in the eye.”

Luca rounded the island in two strides. He towered over her, close enough that she smelled the clean musk of his skin mixed with the faint salt of dried sweat. His breath ghosted hot across her lips. “You stayed because he paid you with diamonds and this fucking villa. Spread your legs for security, didn’t you?”

The words landed like a slap, but they also sent a dark pulse straight to her core. Elena felt her cunt throb once, a slick warmth gathering between her folds as anger and something far more shameful twisted inside her. She stepped forward instead of back, her breasts brushing his bare chest through the thin silk. The contact made her nipples harden into aching points, visible beneath the robe.

“And you hate me for it,” she whispered, tilting her face up so her mouth hovered near his. “But you can’t stop staring. Can you feel it already, Luca? How this house is going to break us both?”

His hand shot out, gripping her upper arm hard enough that she gasped. The pressure sent sparks racing over her skin. She could see the rapid beat of his pulse in his throat, the way his cock stirred beneath the thin fabric of his sweatpants, thickening against her hip as fury and unwanted arousal collided. His grip tightened, fingers digging into soft flesh, and for a heartbeat she thought he might kiss her—or choke her. Moisture seeped from her, coating her inner thighs in a slow, betraying trickle.

Luca’s jaw flexed. He shoved her back against the counter instead, the edge biting into her lower back. Plates rattled. Their eyes locked—hatred, hunger, years of poison swirling between them. His chest heaved, brushing her breasts with every breath, sending jolts of sensation straight down to her swollen clit.

He released her abruptly and stalked away, the heavy thud of his footsteps echoing. A door slammed somewhere in the west wing, the sound reverberating through the marble like a promise.

Elena remained leaning against the counter, heart hammering, her robe fallen open to expose one full breast and the slick evidence of her body’s betrayal glistening on her thighs. Thunder rolled outside, shaking the tall windows as rain began to lash the glass. The storm had arrived.

The cage felt smaller already.
