Still on the Green Sofa

  1. Prologue: The Fullness That Stayed

Elena’s back rested against the arm of the green sofa, the oatmeal sweater rucked high enough that the soft underside of her breasts cooled in the air. Atlas’s chest lay heavy across her stomach and ribs, dense fur warm where it pressed into the give of her body. His hips stayed seated between her thighs. The knot had swollen fully some minutes ago and now held him there, a thick, living pressure that filled her and refused to ease. She felt the pulse of it against her walls, the way each small shift of his weight ground the swollen base against the sensitive place just inside her entrance. Fluid from earlier still slicked the join of them; more seeped around the seal whenever he rocked.

She kept one hand buried in the fur along his shoulders, fingers working slow circles into the muscle beneath. The other rested on the broad plane of his skull. His tongue came out at intervals to lap the salt from her collarbone, then the upper curve of her breast, the strokes unhurried and thorough. Each pass left a cooling trail that tightened her skin. She arched a fraction so the next lick caught the underside where she was fullest. He answered with a low sound in his chest and stayed where he was, locked deep, the only movement the faint, involuntary flex of his hips that dragged the knot against her.

Outside the window ordinary traffic passed. A car door closed somewhere below. Elena listened and did not turn her head. The cast on her right leg lay straight along the cushion, heavier now that the bone had begun to knit, yet she had not shifted it in some time. Atlas’s hindquarters settled more fully against her good thigh. The heat of him soaked through her skin. She rolled her hips once, experimentally, and the motion pulled a sharper ache from the locked stretch. Her breath left her in a short, open sound. Atlas’s ears flicked; his tongue returned to the soft skin beneath her jaw and stayed there, working in the same steady rhythm he used when he cleaned her after.

She spread her knees a little wider. The sweater slipped higher. Cool air touched the place where his fur met her belly, then the wet heat where they were joined. She reached down between them and traced the taut rim of her own body around the base of the knot, feeling how fully it had seated, how the flesh had given and held. Atlas made another low sound and pushed, not enough to move them, only enough that the pressure swelled again. She kept her fingers there, circling, while his tongue moved lower to the valley between her breasts. The string lights over the bookshelf cast a faint gold across the curve of his back and the pale stretch of her stomach. She watched the light move with his breathing.

A message tone sounded from the phone on the low table. She did not reach for it. Atlas lifted his head long enough to nose the underside of her breast, then settled again, chin resting where the skin was softest. The knot throbbed once, thicker, and she felt the answering clench of her own body around it. Her hand stayed in his fur. Below the window someone laughed, the sound brief and distant. Elena closed her eyes and let the next small rock of his hips carry through her, the fullness unchanged, the cast forgotten against the cushion, the phone still dark on the table.

  1. Chapter 1: Six Days on the Cushion

Elena shifted the laptop an inch higher on the arm of the green sofa so the screen sat level with her eyes. The cast on her right leg rested straight along the cushions, the plaster already softened at the edges where her fingers had ...
