Maddie - Arrested and Charged

I was just finishing up my shift at the Dollar Bargain when a pair of cops came in. I was tidying up the display of chips, and saw their cruel faces scan the store. Robbie and Greg. I knew these two douchebags from a grade up in high school, and they didn’t get any smarter or nicer once they’d graduated and joined the force. In our little town, almost everyone knew each other. Our police force was pretty small, and the local judge seemed to have a lot of influence, even over the chief. At least, that’s what Lorrie, my co-worker said last week. She said he had a daughter that he kept in a tight grip, barely letting her leave the house.

Robbie’s eyes landed on me, and stopped there. He gestured to Greg, and they headed over, swaggering, pushing past Mr. Aberforth and not apologizing. Were they coming over to me? I looked around, but I was the only one in this section of the store.

They stopped in front of me, and I crossed my arms, feeling defensive. Not that I had anything to feel defensive about. I’d never done anything remotely illegal or even naughty. My parents were really strict, especially my dad.

“Madison Landings, you’re under arrest for solicitation.”

I just blinked. Was this a joke? My eyes darted around, and every eye in the store was trained on us. I was so stunned, I didn’t resist at first when Robbie spun me around and grabbed my hands to cuff me behind my back, clicking them tightly to my wrists. He started to read me my rights, and I shook my head to clear it. I pulled at his hands, then bucked my body to try to get him to let go.

“Quit it, Robbie. Har, har, this was a great joke. Now, let me go.”

“No joke, Maddie. I’m taking you in.”

Panic set in. He was serious.

“No way. I haven’t done anything. Let alone solicitation! Are you nuts?” My voice went up in a squeak at the end, my breath catching.

He started dragging me towards the door with a painful grip on my upper arm. Mr. Aberforth looked at me with disgust, and turned away as I passed. Even Mrs. Thompson turned her nose up when we got close. Was everyone believing this farce?

“You were always such a prude in high school. Too pure to fuck me. Now I find out you’re sucking cocks for cash? Figures. You look like a total slut, even though you try to hide it. After today, everyone’s gonna know you’re a whore.” Robbie’s voice was so loud, everyone in the store must have heard it.

My blood turned to ice. Was that how he saw it? I was really shy in school, still am, and wanted to save myself for marriage. Not that I had to for religious reasons or anything, it just seemed really romantic. I hoped to meet someone, get to know them, keep things slow, and learn to make each other happy once we were committed. That wasn’t so unusual. I was as far from a whore as you could get.

I couldn’t go to jail for this. My reputation would be ruined. Who would want to marry me with this kind of charge on my record? I pulled at Robbie’s hand on my arm, but Greg just grabbed my other one. That rattled me so much, I bucked and fought against them, trying to get free. I wasn’t thinking rationally. I just needed to get away.

Greg tut-tutted. “Maddie, Maddie, Maddie. Your struggles are pointless, and just earned you a resisting arrest charge on top of the solicitation. You’re not a very bright whore, are you?” Why did they keep calling me a whore? I slumped in their grip, afraid of making things worse for myself. They shoved me roughly into the back seat of their cruiser. They got in the front, looking around at all the nosy bystanders with a smirk, and turned on the sirens and lights for the three-minute drive to the station. Everyone on the street turned to look, and peered in the back to see me there, trying to hunch in the seat to hide from their gazes.

“Do you have to have the siren on? The station’s just down the street.” I tried not to sound so petulant, but I knew it leaked through.

They laughed. “Fuck yeah, everyone should know how far you’ve fallen. Hiding being a prostitute from your neighbors should be a crime too! We’re all gonna love seeing you taken down a peg.”

The whole town was going to hear about this. How was I going to clear my name? Even if I could prove I was innocent, everyone would look at me differently after this. I was freaking out, trying to catch my breath, my chest feeling tight. I struggled in the back seat to get comfortable with the cuffs digging in behind me, and when they stopped, I flew forward into the backs of their seats.

I looked up and we were in front of the station. They got out and pulled me roughly out of the car, more aggressively than called for since I wasn’t fighting them anymore. They marched me up the stairs, and through the double doors. Our town was small enough that the station, lock-up and courthouse were all in one building. They led me to an open cell in the far corner of a back room, and pushed me in. I almost fell, and with my hands cuffed, wouldn’t have been able to catch myself.

Greg followed me in, uncuffed me, then left, locking the cell door behind him.

I rushed to the bars, and called out to them as they walked away.

“Don’t I get a call?”

They didn’t stop, and Greg called out over his shoulder. “Maybe if you suck our dicks, we’ll let you call ...
