What Step-Grandmas Are For

  1. Prologue

The ceiling fan turned in slow, lazy circles, its soft mechanical whisper the only sound besides the wet, measured slide of flesh into flesh.

Ethan moved inside her with the unhurried certainty of someone who no longer had to ask. Rose’s body received him the way it always did now—soft, open, already slick from the slow minutes of kissing and touching that had come before. Her legs rested high around his waist, heels light against the small of his back, guiding without urgency. Every deep push drew a low, breathy sound from her throat, the kind that lived somewhere between contentment and quiet hunger.

Sweat had gathered in the hollow of her throat. He tasted it when he lowered his mouth there, lips open, tongue slow. Make sure she drank enough water. Sit with her. Be present. The words they used were soft, almost noble.
