Mom’s New Rule: A Mother-Son Taboo Household Arrangement

525 words·3 min read

Chapter 1: The Rule

The apartment was smaller than either of them had wanted. One bedroom for her, the living-room couch that folded out for him, a kitchen you could cross in four steps. Mark had moved in two weeks after the papers were signed—his lease was up, her rent had doubled, and neither of them had the energy to pretend the other option was better. At twenty-four he was finished with school and working nights stocking at the distribution center; she was forty-six, still in the same admin job she’d had for fifteen years, and still learning how quiet a house got once the last of the shared furniture was gone.

They managed for the first month. She cooked. He took out the trash and fixed the dripping tap. They watched whatever was on after dinner and went to their separate beds without much talking. But the silence had weight. She caught herself noticing the way his shoulders filled the doorway when he came in from the gym, the low sound he made when he stretched in the morning. “That’s a terrible idea,” she said.

“Probably.” His voice was steady. “But I’m here, you’re here, and neither of us is getting anything else right now. I’m not asking for anything complicated. Just
if you’re horny and I’m home, or the other way around, we say so. We handle it. Then we go back to whatever we were doing.”

She should have said no. Instead she shifted closer until her thigh touched his. “And if one of us wants more than that some night?”

“Then we say that too. Or we don’t. Rule stays the same either way.”

Her hand settled on the waistband of his sweatpants. She tugged them down just far enough. He was thick, already wet at the tip from the conversation. She wrapped her fingers around him and stroked once, slow, watching his stomach tighten.

“Right now,” she said. “I’m horny. You’re home.”

He exhaled. “Yeah.”

She leaned over and took him in her mouth. No buildup, no talking. Just the weight ...
